One of Rebekah Brooks’ first acts upon returning to the helm of News UK in September was unveiling the £114m acquisition of Unruly, thrusting the nine-year-old social-video ad platform into the spotlight.
The deal capped an amazing first decade for the company, which was founded by Scott Button, Matt Cooke and Sarah Wood.
Based in London, Unruly tracks video-sharing and views via paid media, across devices. It has expanded into 15 cities, with 63% of its revenue now coming from outside the UK capital. It has operations and marketing around the globe to support multiple time zones.
Unruly built the world’s first end-to-end video-marketing platform, with the tech to track trending videos and distribute video ads for brands. It has established its own brand with fixed ‘social video lab’ installations in London, New York and Hamburg. It also partners third parties in different territories when required.
